“I saw the French newspaper. Even I would get jealous.”

Super Junior, f(x) and SHINee returned to Korea through Incheon international airport on the 13th at 3pm after finishing SM Town live World tour in Paris. SM Town is a brand of collaborative tour of the singers from SM Entertainment. For the first time ever, a collaborative tour by a Korean management company was held in Europe for 2 days gathering over 14,000 audiences.

When we met Super Junior at the airport, even though they were tired, they didn’t lose their smile saying it’s going to be difficult to adjust to time difference. They felt pride in themselves for starting the fever. They did not hide their confident determination that they want to hold an European tour with their brand of concert called Super Show 4.

Below is the members’ answers.

▲ It was a k-pop concert first to be held in Europe. Is there really Hallyu?

Before leaving for the concert, even we were doubtful. When the concert started and we looked at the audience, there were people from all races that we couldn’t believe that it was our concert. What was unique was that there was a special feeling from European fans. It was only European people that followed our choreography from the start to finish. They were carefree that we felt like we went to a club and they were enthusiastic in expressing themselves. (Leeteuk)

▲What did they find charming about k-pop?

They said it was freshness that they haven’t felt from other music. I heard that they are passionate about singing and dancing and that they approach things emotionally. I met some fans who said that they heard k-pop incidentally, but they were drawn to it that they came to enjoy it with people around them. (Donghae)

▲ We want to hear your feelings on holding a concert in Europe.

It was different from the last year’s L.A. concert. L.A. has a Korea town and it felt close to us emotionally. But Europe was like a new world. It felt amazing and new to us who were performing and the fans who enjoyed it. I felt touched when the fans who only saw us through Youtube thanked us for coming. (Siwon)

▲ You must have had a busy schedule. How did you spend your time?

We saw the Louvre museum, Montmartre hill and Eiffel tower. Kyuhyun likes wine so he woke up early to look at wines. (Siwon)

▲Some French medias were critical of the concert.

I saw the reaction through a news article. If I was the French media, even I would felt the same. Isn’t it a country that has pride in their culture? I’m sure they did not expect so many people to go wild over it that it would have been a shock to them. They could not have directly expressed it so I think they reacted like that. (Leeteuk)

▲Is there a memorable moment?

People from the embassy and Korean people living in France visited us and said thank you. They said it was the first time that Korea received attention like this in Europe. It felt good when I thought we gave them encouragement. (Donghae)

▲It seems that you could do concerts in other countries.

Among the members, we talked about how we want to do Super Show 4 in Europe as part of our tour. I really hope that happens. (Leeteuk)

On June 11th via KBS2TV’s show, “Immortal Song 2″, various idols performed songs that they practiced during their years as young trainees. This episode of Immortal Song featured the vocal talents of SHINee’s Jonghyun, SISTAR’s Hyorin, Secret’s Song Jieun, 2AM’s Changmin, BEAST’s Yoseob, and Super Junior’s Yesung.

The show largely exists to eradicate the belief that idol stars are “3-second-singers” by having them showcase their vocal talents through a television show.

When it came time for Super Junior’s Yesung to take the stage, his performance was preceded by a heart-wrenching story. Yesung explained that back in his trainee days, he was invited to DBSK’s debut performance. As he was watching the performance, he saw his parents in the audience, shedding tears over DBSK’s stage. Even though he was older than the members of DBSK at the time, he had yet to debut into his own group, likely causing his parents to fret over their son’s uncertain future. He then broke down into tears after witnessing his parents’ tears. Yesung concludes his touching story on an optimistic note, speaking of how he’s grateful to his parents and how they’ve fueled him on towards reaching the amount of success he’s achieved in his life thus far.

Yesung then belted out a captivating rendition of “One Man” by Kim Jong Gook for his “Immortal Song 2″ performance, entrancing audience members and viewers alike.

The Producer, Soo Man Lee Received a Standing Ovation on His Speech of CT Theory!

S.M.Entertainment held not only the ‘VISIT KOREA YEAR 2010-2012’ SMTOWN LIVE WORLD TOUR in PARIS, but also the conference aimed at European writers and publishers.Approximately 50 famous European writers and publishers attended the conference held at the Marriott Rive Gauche hotel at 1:00 p.m (Paris time) on June 11th and showed their interests for SM and its music.Especially, the producer Soo Man Lee gave a speech on the steps and future of Hallyu(Korean-wave) as well as the SM’s producing based on CT(Culture Technology) theory. He also introduced the overall system and features of the process of music production drawing European writers and publishers’ attention and received a standing ovation. Also, a world-renowned producer, Teddy Riley who has produced albums of Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga said in his speech “I became interested in K-pop while I was working on music with SM. After I saw ‘SMTOWN LIVE in PARIS’ concert, I realized that K-pop which started with SM is a Movement. When I first made and used New Jack Swing, it wasn’t just a musical genre but it was a phenomenon or a Movement and I had a similar feeling through ‘SMTOWN LIVE in PARIS.’   In addition, the famous European publisher, Willy Morrision also stated his view on SM’s future by saying “I saw the SMTOWN LIVE concert for the first time yesterday and it was very impressive. The scene of the audience was like enthusiastic fans at the Beatles concert in Britain. SM will be the most powerful company in the world in 5~10 years. The SM’s driving force to grow this much is Philosophy. Because there has been CT, the foundation of philosophy that wants everything to be perfect, it’s different from European music and it could have grown this much. Moreover, Tiffany from Girls’ Generation attended the conference and intrigued the attendee by introducing the training courses in SM and how she feels the change in global status as an Asian pop artist. This conference was designed to let European writers and publishers know musical style which SM pursues and to build more active exchange and ties with them. Actually, they gained results by interacting good music and ideas through the conference.  Meanwhile, Universal Music Publishing Sweden representative, Pelle Lidell, the composer group from ‘Design Music’ who composed Girls’ Generation’s ‘Genie’, Alex Cantrall who composed f(x)’s ‘Pinocchio and other composers who involved in SM artists’ hit songs also attended. SM is planning to hold continuously a conference or a Song Writing camp in other countries like this event and build networks with foreign composers and publishers.
